What Is A Painting?
Occasionally I am asked to define what I think a painting is or should be. I have collected definitions of painting over the years and here's a list of what I think are acceptable definitions of painting.
• A painting is a two-dimensional image created by utilizing paint.
• A painting is thought or emotion made visual.
• A painting is visual poetry.
• A painting is a window into another reality or dimension.
• A painting is magically empowering thoughts and ideas by making them visual.
• A painting is the stored honey of the soul.
• A painting should be interesting to the artist and viewer; a puzzle, a question, provides a story, entertainment or mental exercise.
